Sad News – Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z’l

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of former Chief Rabbi, Lord Jonathan Sacks. Rabbi Sacks was a voice of profound wisdom within our Jewish community and around the world.

The Torah of Rabbi Sacks’ could be heard on BBC broadcasts , the TED stage and through his many books, posts and publications and of course throughout many a synagogue and Yeshiva.

Many within our own congregation hold deep affection for Rabbi Sacks and his unique ability to teach Torah to the modern world. Rabbi Sacks’ erudition and his commitment to tolerance and peace continue to have profound influence on many people.

In 2017 Rabbi Sacks was a guest of our community, and drew an unparalleled crowd of listeners from across the spectrum of Vancouver’s Jewish community.  It was at that moment that I realized how personally Rabbi Sacks had touched so many of us.

His loss is ours as it is for all of Klal Yisarael.  We are currently planning a memorial event either by joining an international effort or of our own design.

We also wish comfort to his wife Elaine and his children Joshua, Dina and Gila and their families.

Hamakom Yenachem Otanu B’Toch Shaar Avele Ytzion V”Yerushalayim.
May Hashem comfort us among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem
