Sad News – Harvey Brian Richer z’l

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Beth Israel member Professor Harvey Brian Richer z’l, on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Harvey was a devoted and beloved husband to Klara Richer and cherished father and father-in-law to Samantha and Adam Bretholz, and Aaron Richer and Rebecca Hersant. Adored and proud grandfather of Lillian and Mira Bretholz and Asher Richer. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Stephen Richer and Janine Smith and Susan and Ron Wener. Cherished son of the late Samuel and Lillian Richer and son-in-law of the late Otto Glevitzky and Jolan Forbes. We send our sincere condolences to their entire family and friends.

The funeral was held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Beth Israel Cemetery Chapel (1721 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby).

Due to the construction at Brentwood mall, parking has been severely impacted. Please allow yourself additional time to find parking on Graveley Street, Halifax Street and Brentlawn Drive. The modest parking lot is reserved for immediate family and clergy only. Thank you for your understanding.

Contributions in his memory can be made to the Professor Harvey B Richer Astronomy Development Fund, which will receive donations towards a new observatory to be situated on the roof of the Hebb Building on the centre of the UBC campus.
