Sad News – Dr. Martha Salcudean z’l

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Temple Sholom member Dr. Martha Salcudean on July 17, 2019.

Martha was born in 1934 in Cluj, Romania and immigrated to Canada in 1976. In 1985, she became the first female head of the University of British Columbia’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and the first woman to lead a university engineering department in Canada. She received three honorary doctorates and a number of prestigious awards and honours and was an internationally recognized authority on computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer and the modelling of transport phenomena in industrial processes. 

We send our sincere condolences to Martha’s husband, George Salcudean, her son, Tim (Septimiu), and grandchildren, Jake and Hannah.

The funeral will take place on Sunday July 21, 2019 at 1:30 pm at the Temple Sholom Cemetery (14965 – 28th Ave., White Rock/Surrey, BC). A reception will follow, with the details to be announced at the funeral.
