Blog: The Rise of the Digital Pickup

The Rise of the Digital Pickup by Kate Rabinovich

Let me guess, you are easy-going, down to earth, healthy and active.
You like podcasts, Netflix and travelling.
You are into breweries, patios, drinks, and drinks on patios.
You enjoy hiking, biking, surfing, seawalling, snowboarding, scuba diving, and mountain climbing.
A picture with a baby. A picture with a dog. Shirtless picture in front of a mirror.
You’ll mention pizza, cheeseburgers, and that you are looking for an emergency contact, as an attempt to be somewhat light and funny.
The last one is a bit funny.
I imagine you, beautiful Vancouverites and Lower Mainlandites, as you swipe right and left from the apathy of your comfort zone.
I get tired only from reading all the verbs in your profile and can’t help but rolling my eyes at the generic “always down for an adventure,” and “looking for a partner in crime.”
You have the European ancestry working for your looks, the leisure of the first world for your lifestyle, and the variety of the West Coast for your indulgence.          But nowhere on this screen can your edge be found; The testosterone-driven impulse for the chase, the appetite for the hunt, the confidence to dare, the charisma to initiate.
Your creative authenticity is hidden under the uniqueness that you forgot how to market as a result of suppressed masculinity,  oppressed honesty and underused spontaneity.
You’ll declare nothing at all with combinations of words such as “real connection,” “independent woman,” and “drama-free,” while I reminisce times when men were more connected to their “lobster with bigger dick” side.
#Trying to remember there’s hope for the human race despite how we traded eye contact, pheromones and touch for pixels.
