2023 Kristallnacht commemoration – November 9

The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre and Congregation Beth Israel invite you to join us for the community commemoration of Kristallnacht, marking the 85th anniversary of the state-sponsored “Night of Broken Glass” in 1938, taking place on Thursday November 9, 7pm at Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue. A livestream will also be made available on our website www.vhec.org.

For the program this year, we are honoured to have Professor Emeritus of History at the University of British Columbia, Chris Friedrichs, who will contextualize the history of this evening. Our keynote speaker for this year will be Janus Møller Jensen, Director of the Danish Jewish Museum. His talk titled, Courage to Act: October 1943, Denmark, will explore the narratives of the rescue of Danish Jews.

We are coming together on this historical evening to stress the importance of education, dialogue and inspired action. In light of recent horrific events in the Middle East and the troubling rise in antisemitism, our work is more vital than ever and our need to come together as a community is paramount.

The program is free and everyone is welcome. There is no requirement to RSVP.

For more information, please visit www.vhec.org/upcomingevents or 604-264-0499.

We would be honoured if you would join us at this important community event.
