It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Alan Gurvis z’l, on Tuesday, June 11 in the evening.
The past eighteen months since he moved from independent living were quite difficult, between increasing health issues and his loss of independence. His family is comforted that his passing was peaceful at the end, and grateful that he is now at rest.
Alan is survived by Judy, his wife of 73 years.
His last moments followed her coming to wish him goodnight.
He is also survived by his children, Rabbi Eric Gurvis and Laura Gurvis, Mark Gurvis and Leah Pomerantz, and Todd Gurvis; Grandchildren, Aaron (Anna), Annie, Benjamin (Emily), Denise, Eitan (Gabi), Jacob (Deni), Lottie, Noa, Sarah (Jeremy), and Shoshanah; and Great Grandchildren, Ian, Henry, Noah and Eleanor.
Alan lived a life of service to community, serving in the US Army, providing leadership to synagogues and men’s clubs, and volunteering with UJA campaigns. After his retirement he volunteered for many years with the Area Agency on Aging, putting his IBM career to work helping seniors connect to internet services.
His lifetime sense of responsibility to family and community is something he passed along to his children and grandchildren.
His passing came as we welcomed the holiday of Shavuot, a time when many Jews believe the gates of heaven are open.
