Are you a wordsmith when you text?

According the Encarta Dictionary, a wordsmith is: ‘somebody working with words skillfully’. The wordsmith crafts words much like the goldsmith crafts gold and silver into precious pieces of jewelry.

Last week a book grabbed my attention. It is called “When Parents Text” by Lauren Kaelin and Sophia Fraioli (whenparentstext.com). Since my last blog posting was about talking fingers I thought that the blurb on the back of the book above two bewildered parents was apropos: “My fingers are saying words. This is amazing.”

An effective wordsmith can transfer thoughts and feelings into written words of choice. Kids have written the rule book on chosen abbreviated messages that have a life of their own. Bewildered parents are trying to learn the rules to this new kind of living written articulation.

Next time you text your kid, craft a message that will have a precious golden affect. LOL
